I truly feel that teenagers today live out their angst at the zeitgeist of grown-up culture. From the edgy-sweet editorial and budget-sweet size of Teen Vogue to Seventeen‘s consistently awesome advice, I really do think the sub-legal culture has got it going on. Don’t even get me started on the teen (and tween) fashion bloggers out there like Jane’s Sea of Shoes and Tavi, the Style Rookie and their multitude of impeccably styled peers!
Let’s bring it back teenage style, and consider this as well: the teenage or kids’ arms of some major retailers offer similar, peppier or better designs at, frequently, a fraction of the price of their adult counterparts’ goods. Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware spin sophomoric sophistication with pretty sweet prices, while fashion standbys from your rebel years (think Delia’s and Urban) can still be pulled off by hot and mature girls. Don’t think of it as quarter- or mid-life, think of it as the teenage+++ years..
Hell, I might even start dotting my i’s with hearts again.
