I’ve been waiting with bated breath for the High Line Project to finish and today is the day!* The city took on the refurbishment of the abandoned raised railroad track down in way-west Meatpacking/Chelsea/Hell’s Kitchen, and transformed it into a mile-and-a-half-long green space designed by diller scofidio + renfro, the wonder firm that designed the ICA in Boston, and landscape designers James Corner Field Operations. Beneath the park will be a retail center, and the Friends of the High Line also have lots of public art and programs planned – hooray!
*I’m always amazed at how quickly construction projects come together at the very end, because when I took a stroll down there about two weeks ago, it didn’t look nearly finished! Rad.
